Newell calls PC format the "center of innovation" and is "excited" over its future

Valve's Gabe Newell has called the PC platform a "center of innovation" for the game development industry.

According to Newell, Valve's "tremendously excited" about the platform's future.

“We see [the PC] as the center of innovation of everything that’s going on, whether it’s microtransactions, MMOs, free-to-play, or something like CityVille which – after its first month – has 84 million people playing,” he told Develop. "To us, this is just an indication of why open platforms are where innovations are going to occur."

Newell is also excited over Intel’s Sandy Bridge processor, which during CES he called a "game changer" which will "allow for a console-like experience on the PC".

CES debuted all sorts of new innards for PCs and laptops, so, the future of PC looks like its getting brighter indeed. Hopefully, folks will stop tolling the death-knell of the format soon.
