New Omega Force IP is indeed a Warriors game
Colour me deeply unsurprised.
New Omega Force IP is a Warriors game after all
Omega Force, the prolific developer best known for the sprawling Warriors or Musou family of games, has another one in the works.
Following on from a promise that Koei Tecmo would unveil a brand new Omega Force IP at E3 2016, the publisher has opened a Japanese teaser site pointing to a June 13 reveal. According to Gematsu, the text on the site described the new project as "the most evil Musou in history".
Goodness knows what that means. If the "history" referenced here is, you know, history history we may be looking at a particularly dark period as a setting for Omega Force's trademark battlefield action.
It could also refer to the game's difficulty level, maybe? Although Koei Tecmo is very proud of how the Musou games scale from button-mashing nonsense right up to frame-counting fighter difficulty at the highest level, the recent trend for hardcore action games and RPGs is clearly something it is interested in, as with Team Ninja's Nioh. A break from the Three Kingdoms and Sengoku settings of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors respectively would perhaps give it the opportunity to build a Warriors game aimed solely at the hardcore, leaving the near-annual sister series for its more story-oriented fans.
Japan is in an earlier time zone than Los Angeles, so the June 13 reveal date suggests we'll hear something about it before the Microsoft and Sony conferences, which occur on June 14 Japan time.
