New Monster Hunter World gameplay takes us on an Anjanath hunt, gives us a look at new RPG systems
Monster Hunter World makes some changes to the series formula. Cast a critical eye over this gameplay footage.
Capcom UK's YouTube channel has published an English-language Monster Hunter World gameplay video, which complements the more prolific Japanese assets floating around and is also in glorious HD, which is a first.
Unfortunately for those of us who are time poor, the video is 23 minutes long. 23 minutes. You could achieve anything in that timespan. Thank goodness Arekkz has gone over the video and produced a much more manageable summary of the important points from the new Monster Hunter World footage.
Although the video draws on the same Monster Hunter World build as we've seen so far - it's set in the Ancient Forest, the players uses a greatsword and bowgun, and there are no new monsters - the focus is on hunting Anjanath, which is a first.
As a result, we get our first look at the full Anjanath armour set (hunter and Palico). We get to see the character menu in full, which means we can check out some weapon and armour skills, too. It seems weapons provide bonuses now, and the examples we see here are damage reductions. It looks like most of the elements make a return on weapons in Monster Hunter World, but that gatling attack we've seen seems to be a special ammo rather than an inherent ability of the bowgun.
Armour pieces have skills, too - we see a helmet with an attack boost. This is a returning feature, but it sort of looks like it's been changed a little for Monster Hunter World, in that you might get a little boost from every bonus rather than needing to max out a boost stat to get any benefit.
As well as all this RPG stats stuff, the video also shows us some big bugs you can burst for free healing. Nice. Watch the full report below:
Monster Hunter World releases in early 2018 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Arekkz has promised to produce a more detailed report on this Monster Hunter World footage, too, so watch out for that.
