New EA "web show," PWNED, dampens Dead Space movie hopes
The inaugural episode of a new EA UK web TV show, PWNED, has cast doubt on progress of a live action Dead Space film, news of which was first reported in July 2009.
Variety broke the story last year that EA was working on a Dead Space film with DJ Caruso as director. Dead Space 2 art director Ian Milham reiterated the fact that a full motion picture of Dead Space has been in discussion.
"There's been interest in a live-action full feature," the developer said after being pulled up by the show's presenter, Matt Cuttle, for mentioning the word "movie".
Milham appeared to suggest things weren't exactly rocketing along, though, adding: "If there's anything we've learned from Dead Space, it's that you're much better off taking your time and making sure something's quality than trying too fast."
Gears of War movie producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey were supposed to be working on the film. The Gears of War movie, as confirmed to VG247 by Epic's Cliff Bleszinski at E3, has since entered "touch and go" territory.
Dead Space was, at the time, the fifth EA franchise to get the movie treatment, others in the works being Army of Two, The Sims, Dante’s Inferno and Mass Effect.
An animated film, Downfall, prequeled the first game.
Hollywood foot-dragging aside, though, Pwned - lower case; capitals make us feel dirty - appears to be "OK". Here's the run-down for the first episode.
- Behind the scenes on the Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Power Struggle video with Roll Deep and Ben Collins
- Fight Night Producer Brian Hayes meets the PWNED computer
- An exclusive interview with Ian Milham, Art Director on Dead Space 2
- And Matt takes on Victoria Pendleton in EA SPORTS Active 2
Give it a waz below. Watch out for Sian Welby using the word "cougar".
