Never Alone is first game from Native American game studio, based on Alaskan folklore
Never Alone is the first title from Upper One Games, a studio formed last year by Native American developers. It's a puzzle-platform game based on generations of Alaskan folklore and sees a young girl exploring and surviving harsh snowy environments.
We reported on the formation of Upper One Games last year. It was established via a partnership betweenE-Line Media and the Cook Inlet Tribal Council. "We really focus on the advancement of people and their lives," CITC President and CEO Gloria O'Neill told Joystiq. "About six years ago we really started thinking deeply about what self determination looks like. 'What does it mean to truly be in charge of our own destinies?'"
The team formed and chose to develop Never Alone as a way of preserving Native American culture and stories. The Unity-powered game features brutal Arctic conditions and striking weather-beaten imagery that shroud protagonists Nuna and Fox as they flee from polar bears. Along the way they'll encounter puzzles that require clever use of their unique skill-sets by one player, or cooperatively with two.
Never Alone is coming to PC and consoles. It's not clear which home formats the team is developing for, however.
