Multiplayer details for Aliens: Colonial Marines escape Texas
During an event for Aliens: Colonial Marines, Gearbox showed off the game's multiplayer modes such as deathmatch which according to CVG contains more than just "a simple xeno-bashing muck about."
In the first round of multiplayer, the site played as the marines with Gearbox as the aliens in a series of 8v8 matches.
Players will have a chance to customize their armory and become familiarized with the weapons in the game before the shooting starts. In addition to the pulse rifle and shotgun, a new assault rifle has been added which CVG described as a cross between the pulse rifle and a S.M.A.R.T. gun. The later provides the player with a HUD and an auto-aiming mode - but is only available to players on-map pickup.
With the deathmatch mode, the winning team is the one to reach 50 kills first. According to CVG, in order to be proficient at this, players will need to "stick together, hug the walls, use the motion tracker and watch the corners."
With the xenos able to use ceilings and air shafts as attack points, it's easy for the nasties to rush marines at short range - just like the movies.
When switching off to the aliens side, the gameplay was the "complete opposite of everything" learned when playing as a marine. The view switches to third person so it's less disorienting when climbing on a ceiling.
Xenos will also have a class system: your common variety xenomorph, one who is harder to detect, and rather large monstrosity called the Crusher. In order for the xeno team to best the marines, CVG found the aliens need to make use of x-ray vision in order to find where the enemy is hiding and keep track of your teammates.
It was also suggested the xeno player stick to the ceilings, perform timed attacks, and flank enemies as much as possible.
Aliens: Colonial Marines will release in the fall on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. It will also land on Wii U once the console hits the market.
