Microsoft said at the BMO Capital Markets Annual Digital Entertainment Conference in New York yesterday that Xbox live Gold subs use the service for an average of three hours per day.

Dennis Durkin, COO and CFO of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, added that 40 percent of that time was spent using non-gaming services such as Last.fm, Joystiq reports.

More than half of Xbox Live's 25 million users are paying subs.

"Those are very, very engaged customers, which is a good business," Durkin said, adding that Xbox Live's DLC business is actually larger than its subscription business.

With content being such a key driver to live's success, Durkin was quick to assure that creators are well paid.

"Obviously, the majority of the revenue that we get in this segment of our business, we share with our partners," he said.

During Durkin's talk, he also said Kinect could be used to track usage and eventually tailor content offerings to the consumer, based on said activity.
