The Mortal Kombat movie has cast its Liu Kang, Mileena, Jax, and others
The first casting decisions for Mortal Kombat, the upcoming videogame adaptation film, have started rolling in.
The film, which is currently casting for extras in Adelaide, South Australia (my home town, coincidentally), is building up its roster with a mix of established and unknown actors. Ludi Lin has been announced play Liu Kang in the movie. The actor, who played Captain Murk in Aquaman, Zack in the recent Power Rangers movie, and Lance in the Black Mirror episode Striking Vipers (he was the guy in the fighting game), took to Twitter to give thanks to Mortal Kombat fans.
Newcomer Sisi Stringer will play Mileena, while Mechad Brooks (James Olsen in Supergirl, Eggs in True Blood) will play Jax, according to Deadline. Eurogamer reports that Tadanobu Asano is in "final negotiations" to play Raiden. Asano is probably best known in the west for playing Hogun in Thor, but he's quite prolific in Japan. Joe Taslim, meanwhile, will play Sub-Zero. He was very fun as Jaka in The Raid: Redemption.
The Mortal Kombat movie is targeting a March 2021 release date, and will not shy away from being super violent. It will be the directorial debut of Simon McQuoid.
