Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition in the running for Aussie R18+ rating

Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition will be resubmitted for classification in the hopes of finally securing a local release fot the 2011 title

"Warner Bros Entertainment Australia will be submitting the Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition for classification under the new R18+ classification category," a representative told Gamespot.

The Komplete Edition, a 2012 re-issue of the 2011 fighter which bundles in all available DLC, has not been rated in Australia, but the original SKU of Mortal Kombat was Refused Classification in 2011, effectively banning it from retail, despite an appeal by Warner Bros.

The publisher also sought classification for the Vita version, which has the Komplete Edition's content, but again met with a stubborn RC rating.

Australia's R18+ rating category for video games came into effect on January 1. Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, published locally by Nintendo Australia, was recently confirmed as Australia's first R18+ game.

There is some political pressure to reclassify some MA15+ games as R18+ to ensure consistent content ratings, and as the R18+ ratings category's guidelines are only slightly less strict than that of the MA15+ category, it's unclear whether Mortal Kombat and its ilk will make it through.
