Monster Hunter returns to PlayStation - along with Xbox One and PC - for Monster Hunter World
Monster Hunter is returning to the console it was born on - along with PC and Xbox One - with Monster Hunter World.
Monster Hunter World looks a bit different from the last few games in the series, which were built for the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS (and now the Switch). The player is shown swinging from vines and using camouflage, luring monsters into traps, and even goading them into fighting one another. There also seems to be a gatling gun weapon available, which gives the game a slightly different tone.
According to the press release put out after the trailer, Monster Hunter Worlds will retain the series' "skill based progression and robust crafting system", and players will need to "strategically use the surrounding environment including terrain, vegetation and wildlife to their advantage in battle or become hindered by the hazards they present".
The monsters are, naturally, more detailed than they have been in previous versions as well. All told, it looks pretty gorgeous, with a wider range of animations than MH4 or Generations before it. As always, co-op will be available for up to four players, and for the first time players in the west will be able to play the game with Japanese players.
Monster Hunter World is due in early 2018. The PC release will follow the console versions.
