How to Get a Palico in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

Right, first things first, you’re going to need to know how to get a Palico in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. You see, you start Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate completely on your own, no Felyne friend to speak of. What you’ll need to do is head over to the Palico Ranch to remedy this, which is located to the right of the starting village area. You’ll need to find the Meowstress character, located towards the far-right of the area (pictured below).

If it is your first time visiting the Meowstress, you’ll be guided through scouting your first palico. You can customize your Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate Palico, and then the Meowstress will bring it to you. You’ll then need to head to the Palico board. The Palico Board is located next to the Palico Scout, but there is also one in your house. It is here that you can select which Palico that you want to accompany you on missions.

So What do Palicoes do in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate?

Whether you’ve recently played another Monster Hunter game, or whether Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is your first game in the series, you’ll want to check out palicoes. Bringing a Palico with you on your travels opens up a ton of awesome features. First and foremost, Palicoes will help you in battle, with skills and support moves to assist you. These can be everything from healing to AoE attacks, and can be set at the Palico Board. Another reason you’ll want to keep a Palico around is because they will pick items up for you. This is especially helpful when you knock off bits of a monster you are fighting, as your Palico will often pick them up. You’ll be presented with all of the items your Palico has gathered when ending a quest. Finally, you can actually play as a Palico in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, something which we’ll go into more detail on below.

How to Play as a Palico in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate - Prowler Guide

One of the most interesting features that you’ll find in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is the option to play as a Prowler Palico. Prowlers are essentially a whole new weapon class, playing completely differently to a Hunter. To play as a Prowler, you’ll need at least one Palico (see info above). Just head up to a Palico Board and choose “Switch to Prowler/Hunter”. You’ll then be controlling a cat, which is pretty awesome. Here’s some key info on how to play as a Prowler in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate:

  • Prowlers have no Stamina Bar
  • You can evade three times in a row
  • Evade after an attack and you’ll trigger a sprint while your weapon is still drawn
  • You can automatically fish, catch bugs and mine without equipment
  • Weapons remain sharp without the need for Whetstones
  • There are acorns located under the health bar, these indicate instant revives
  • You can burrow into the ground as a prowler with R + B, this will allow you to hide and escape

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate Palico Armor and Weapons

If you’re using a Palico in battle, you’ll want to make sure they are properly equipped. You can head to the Palico Board to change weapons and armor, just select “manage equipment” To get more Palico weapons and armor, head to the Palico Armory located next to the regular one. You’ll gt scraps when you upgrade equipment which can be used to craft new stuff for palicoes, and you can use resources gathered out in the world as well.
