Monster Hunter 4 allows players to dress up as Link, play alongside Mario Bros

You will be able to dress up like Link alongside cats dressed up like the Mario Bros. in Monster Hunter 4, Nintendo and Capcom revealed in a Monster Hunter themed Nintendo Direct this morning.

When the game launches next week, Iwata announced players will initially be able to obtain the Mario, Luigi and Yoshi costumes from "special quests" at 7-Elevens across Japan. It seems they'll eventually be made available through the eShop however, in case you're not in the mood for a Slurpee. Although I bet Japan has some interesting flavours.

The Link costume and assorted weapons, which seem to include at least the Master Sword and the bow Zelda wielded in Twilight Princess, won't be available until a later, as of yet unannounced date.

You can catch the Zelda items 24 minutes into the Direct, while the Mario Brothers costumes are where you want them, right at the beginning. The Mario Brothers segment also showed a pig dressed as Yoshi and some giant ape monster called a Congalala eating a super mushroom which caused it to grow into something which looked a bit like Donkey Kong

The rest of the presentation covered the more standard features of the game, such as jumping, which apparently expands the feeling of openness pretty dramatically over previous entries.

The game comes out next week in Japan and hasn't yet been announced for western markets.
