Molyneux talks "great" games, explains why he's never made one
Well looky here. If it isn't good ol' Peter Molyneux, up to his usual tricks. Yes sir, that mouth of his is running like it's--
Wait. This is different.
“It’s not humility,” Molyneux said to MCV. “It’s the reality and the truth. I am a designer and I shouldn’t stand up and say everything is wonderful and shiny and great and we made the greatest game ever, because we didn’t."
"Being inspired by your mistakes is one way of breaking into that triple-A club. It will always be my consistent dream to break into that club. I’ve made a lot of good games, but never a great game.”
So then, if the bouncers are taking the boot to Molyneux's backside while the Miyamotos, Kojimas, and Newells of the world yuck it up inside, what's it take to get in?
“I’ve never made a game that people will put in their Top Five list of all-time greats,” he explained. “You might consider one of mine, but I don’t think you’d put it in.”
Adding to that, Molyneux noted that if a game can leap the high hurdle of five million units sold, then odds are, it's a top-fiver in a few people's books.
That, of course, may not always hold true, but by and large, we give this a hearty thumbs up. Molyneux's certainly got the right attitude, after all, and so long as quality continues to be his bottom line, we only stand to benefit.
