Mojang profits more than doubled last year

Mojang has revealed that it made profits of 816 million Swedish kronor / $128 million in 2013, which is more than double the 326 million kronor profit it made in 2012.

It worth remembering that Mojang is still a team of just 36, and as the Wall Street Journal points out, Minecraft remains the team's main source of income, helping the company's revenue jump 38% to 2.07 billion kronor. Some 30% of that figure has come from console versions of the sandbox game, followed by some merchandising income, and then the other 38% consisted of PC sales.

Almost all of the 816 million kronor profit is going to an external company owned by Minecraft creator Marcus 'Notch' Persson to cover licensing fees.

Speaking with the site, Mojang exec Carl Manneh said of the figures, "Usually with games, you would start to expect a decline after the first year since launch. That's never really happened for us. Financially speaking, we have no pressure whatsoever to rush into any new projects. Besides, we have no outside owners that require us to reach any particular goals."

Mojang's Minecraft Realms service, which gives parents access to secure servers for a subscription fee, will launch outside of the company's native Sweden later this year, and looks to secure more additional income.

What do you make of the figures above?
