MMU lets you "play as the Mega Man of your dreams," says Inafune

Capcom's Keiji Inafune has said players in Mega Man Universe will get to "play as their favorite version" of the character.

Speaking during a Comic Con panel , Inafune said gamers will be able to play as the Mega Man of their "dreams" with many different versions of the hero to choose from.

"We wanted to preserve as much as we can of the classic 8-bit Mega Man feel, while allowing players to project their own Mega Man onto the game," he said.

"We wanted to create a platform where players can play as their favorite version of Mega Man, another Capcom character -- or maybe a different character completely.

"You'll be able to play as the Mega Man of your dreams. The game will also unite Mega Man fans, putting them together in one specific place."

Even the gold Mega Man from the NES Mega Man 1 box art in the US will be in the game - which you can see in the teaser.

"We talked about how crappy the original package art was, but there's somebody out there that loves that one and probably wants to play as him," said Inafune.

"We made the trailer purposely mysterious, because we wanted to play on the idea of what Mega Man is."

Inafune also said another Mega Man announcement was on the way soon, something that was "oft-requested" by fans.

Mega Man Universe is slated for XBLA and PSN, with a release date to be announced.
