MLG's new VP of programming announces weeknight broadcasts

Major League Gaming has named a new vice president of programming, Chris Puckett, who has big plans to up the ante for weeknight content.

A former commentator, Puckett's new role is to develop original content for weeknight broadcast, which will begin airing in early August.

The new programs are intended to appeal to broad audiences and will include six to ten hours of "ESPN-style" content, featuring "strategy, highlights, analysis, competition, interviews with pro players and more". All will be made available via video on demand.

“Our goal has always been for MLG to become a recognized sport and our online broadcasts and 24/7 programming is the best way to reach a growing and captivated sports-centric audience,” CEO Sundance DiGiovanni said.

"In the last few years, more 18-24 males have watched our Championship competitions online than top traditional sports broadcasts online. The appetite and audience is there and we are poised to deliver.”

MLG noted that engagement is on the rise among its audience, with viewers tuning into an average of 169 minutes of content during the recent Spring Championship, up from 150 minutes per viewer during the Winter Championship.

The next Pro Circuit Championship event is scheduled for November 22 through 24 in Columbus, Ohio, but MLG will host smaller-scale events in the interim.

MLG's current line-up of core titles is Call of Duty: Black Ops 2; League of Legends; and StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm.
