Miyamoto: Wii U NFC games are a 'priority' at Nintendo right now
Nintendo has yet to employ the near-field communication tech within its Wii U console, but Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that the company is putting its priorities into the tech, and is hopeful he can show off games that use the function soon.
Although Disney Infinity's figurines and the Skylanders series use their own NFC-enabled devices to scan characters into their respective games, Nintendo has yet to announce a full game that uses the Wii U GamePad's NFC functions.
Speaking with Polygon, Miyamoto said of the tech, "With NFC, that's a feature that everyone that owns a Wii U can take advantage of.
"So that's what we're putting our priorities right now. We're hoping that in the near future we'll be able to show you something that will take advantage of the NFC on Wii U and people will be able to enjoy that."
Miyamoto also confirmed that Nintendo is currently developing games that support two GamePads and added, "In the future, perhaps when we get closer to something that, an environment where everybody or a large majority of people would have two GamePads, that might be a time where we look at how we can leverage a system of that nature."
The tech was first seen in relation to Wii U via a Rayman Legends proof-of-concept trailer that showed players scanning objects into Ubisoft's game world using the GamePad. It won't appear in the final game, but you can see the concept here.
