Mixer cuts subscription price to be similar to Twitch
In another episode of Mixer's fight against Twitch's dominance, the Microsoft-owned streaming platform has lowered the cost of its subscription.
Not content with snatching up Twitch's biggest stars, Microsoft has announced a reduction to the cost of subscribing on Mixer, from $6 to $5.
This, as you may have guessed, puts it at exactly the same price point for a Twitch Tier One subscription. As on Twitch, subscribing to a streamer on Mixer gets you a set of exclusive emotes and chat badges to denote you've subscribed. It also removes ads, though only from the channels you're subscribed to.
In both cases, the platform takes a 50% cut of all subscriptions, and the streamer the other 50%. Twitch offers two other subscription tiers for increased prices, but those have yet to be introduced on Mixer.
There's also another fairly big distinction between the two. Twitch allows viewers to subscribe to both partners and affiliates, whereas Mixer only has one form of "partners". This could change in the future as Mixer grows, but Twitch's system essentially allows smaller streamers to make some money.
