Minecraft to launch on the same day as Skyrim

Mojang has finally got around to putting a release date on Minecraft - so the team have a legitimate excuse to take time off and play Skyrim.

Writing on his blog, creator Markus "Notch" Persson said the indie exploration and building game would go officially live on November 11 this year - yes, the same day as Skyrim - and the launch is being promoted with the tagline "us, too".

Notch said he's excited for Skyrim, and will reward himself with the game if the studio meets its deadline.

What does this mean for current players? Not a blessed thing, really. The official release version is unlikely to contain any more features than the update immediately prior to the release date. Mojang has a number of content updates to make before release, but these will be rolled out successively.

Notch noted that the game will continue to receive updates, new features, and support after release.

Minecraft has over two million players and has earned $33 million in revenue so far.

Thanks, Joystiq.
