It's taken three years, but Runescape in Minecraft looks great

Minecraft players have recreated the world of venerable free-to-play MMO Runescape inside Mojang's sandbox.

Minecraft is a funny business. You can do almost anything in it. I don't know why you'd decide to tackle a project as huge as rebuilding the entirety of Runescape, but I don't know why people climb mountains either. And they do.

Redditor Mattie400 is one of the Podcrash team behind this painstaking recreation, which has apparently taken three years so far.

"This is not a recreation of the Runescape world from any particular point in time. This is neither the 2007 version of the map, nor the 2014 version," they wrote.

"Instead it is a mix between the two, we've cherry picked what we think are the best bits of the map and put them all together, for example, we have the Grand Exchange and the new Al Kharid, but not the crater in the forest behind Lumbridge. Also, in places that don't have any use in game, we have added small little changes that we feel improve the quality of the map. These aren't massive changes, the map is still accurate to Runescape, but at the same time we wanted to make this our own version of the map."

The map currently includes everything available in the free-to-play version of Runescape, in addition to Catherby, Entrana and most of Seer's Village.

The images here, taken from Imgur, only show one small part of the project - those areas the team has recently upgraded. Others areas are still undergoing polishing and aren't ready to be shown.

Unfortunately, the work-in-progress map has been ripped off multiple times, according to a Planet Minecraft post, and Podcrash isn't offering it for download as a result. We'll just have to wait till they're done, I guess.
