Minecraft Realms will introduce "a simpler kind of service, aimed at families and kids."
Mojang may have one of the most popular games in recent memory with Minecraft, but the company isn't looking to stop there. Minecraft Realms is on the way and will offer a safer way for younger players to spend their time in the blocky universe.
CEO Carl Manneh discussed the new project in an interview with GI. While core gamers and mods are satisfied on other servers, Manneh believes Minecraft Realms will provide younger members of the community with a safer environment to enjoy.
"Our costumers [for Realms] are parents who are tired of trying to act as server administrators on behalf of their kids," said Manneh.
"Minecraft Realms will be a simpler kind of service, aimed at families and kids. In the future we aim to offer certain profiles with mods that are certified to work without crashing, but this will still be a safe and easy way for kids and families to play Minecraft online."
Those who subscribe will be given their own slice of the Minecraft world. Full access will also be granted when deciding who can join. Fortunately, only one player needs to subscribe in order for their friends to join.
"In the end I think this will get Minecraft new players, since there is a viral aspect of Realms. Kids will probably invite friends who don't have Minecraft yet to play with them," continued Manneh.
Mojang expect this to cost between $10-$15 per month, with pre-paid cards available for those who don't possess a credit card.
