Minecraft nears 1 million sales

Speaking in the wake of a trio of IGF nominations, developer Markus "Notch" Persson has confirmed that Minecraft is closing in on 1 million sales, having released the indie beast in May 2009.

Speaking on his blog, Persson said: "Minecraft will hit 1 million sales soon, and I have NO idea how to celebrate that! There’s no time to plan anything!"

The open-worlder recently got a price-hike, rising from €10 to €15 when the game entered beta on December 20.

Despite Minecraft's success, Notch still has no final idea of what the final version will look like.

"On Wednesday," he wrote, "we’ll have a strategy meeting of sorts and try to work out some vague plans and try to decide how to drive Minecraft beta development and try to define what the finished game will actually be."

At least he can sit around counting his €10 million while he figures it out.
