Fan organized Minecraft convention cancelled, $540,000 in tickets sales missing

Looks like the Minorama, the fan created Minecraft convention, has been cancelled and an estimated $540,000 in tickets sales are not being refunded.

The organizers are suspected of making off with the funds garnered from ticket sales after the New York event was cancelled four days before it opened.

A message on Twitter stated: "It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that @mineorama has been postponed, stay tuned for updates. PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NOT A SCAM".

One of the organizers, Lou Gasco, clarified the following day that "financing fell through" and information on refunds would be posted soon. The Twitter account was since deleted and none of the ticket buyers have received a refund.

The website for Mineorama is now offline and the Twitter account has been hijacked. The Facebook page for the event hasn't been updated since July 8.

Mineorama tickets cost $150 a piece and and organizer Gasco said last moth 3,600 had been sold.

Kotaku contacted one of the other organizers,Timothy Carroll, replied with “no comment” when questioned.

Thanks, MCV.
