Cross-play is finally coming to Minecraft on PS4
Minecraft players on PS4 will soon be able to join everyone else on other platforms.
As leaked late last week, Minecraft's Bedrock version is finally arriving on PS4. Bedrock is the update that unified all versions of the game across Windows 10, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and mobile, but it never made it to PS4.
Bedrock allows for many benefits, such as a unified store, cross-platform servers, cross-save and more. Bedrock also supports full cross-play multiplayer between the different platforms. Sony, as you may recall, had a staunch stance against cross-play for a while, until it didn't.
Minecraft, of course, was among the first few advocates for cross-play, and it seems Sony has finally allowed it to enable the feature on its consoles.
This transition should be seamless, and will arrive in an update today, free to all Minecraft owners on PS4. A Microsoft account is required, however, if you plan to play with others on different platforms, and to make sure all purchases carry over between devices.
You'll also need to link your PlayStation Network account to your Microsoft account, which you'll be able to do through the game. Once that's sorted, everything should carry over as intended. You can read the full FAQ for more.
