Middle-earth: Shadow of War video shows much bigger emphasis on loot, gear customisation
Middle-earth: Shadow of War joins the ranks of loot games with its own take on the - very common - gear systems.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War evolves the basic formula established in Shadow of Mordor in a number of ways. Outside of the new environment, and expanded skills, Shadow of War also includes an expansive gear and equipment system.
In the video above from IGN, we get to see the different pieces of gear types you can find in the world, and earn from taking down bosses. You're able to change the main sword, dagger, ranged weapon, armour, cape, and ring.
Each piece of gear looks unique, and has its own level, as you'd expect. Interestingly, some equipment come with buffs that can only be used once the associated challenge has been completed.
Some items also have sockets, which you can use to equip gems. Rings appear to carry most of the options, though, as you can attach runes to them, whcih come with their own benefits. All these options focused builds possible, since you can pick and choose what serves your play style.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is out August 22 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
