Mid-year Metacritic report shows increase in top-scoring games

MetaCritic has released its half-yearly report, showing an increase in review scores for the period, despite NPD reporting sales are down when compared to the same six months last year.
So far this year, seven titles have received a score of 90 or more while three titles - Super Mario Galaxy 2, Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2 - scored over 95 percent.
The top game in the same period last year was Street Fighter IV with a 94 percent average.
At the other end of the scale, 16 games received scores of 49 or lower in the first half of 2009, down from 25 in the same period last year.
The highest rated game of the year so far is Super Mario Galaxy 2, with a review average of 98 percent.
