Microtransactions drive Gameloft's sales up 15%, games downloaded 800 million times
Gameloft announced today the company has achieved a 15% growth in year on year sales. The company attributes its "rapid growth" to the success and virtual goods and advertising which make up as much as 80% of its smartphone revenue.
The company specifcally pointed to many of its titles previously released as surprisingly large contributors to their revenue, including: Ica Age Village, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, MY LITTLE PONY and Order & Chaos Online. In the report, the company noted that its games were availble across 3,000 smartphone models and 350 feature phones across 13 languages.
Gameloft estimates its games have been downloaded 800 million times and people have played a Gameloft game 150 million times in the last month alone.
Going forward, the document outlines Gameloft's plans to move into the emerging mobile market in the world's poorer regions.
"The company expects, starting in 2013, a flood of low-end smartphones and tablets priced between €50 and €100 across the world. Games on these low-end smartphones and tablets will be radically different from the games that have been developed until now on smartphones and tablets."
Thanks, Polygon.
