Microsoft announces IE for Xbox, Smart Glass app
Marc Whitten, the head of Xbox Live, took to the stange to announce Xbox Smart Glass which connects your tablets, phones, and console together. It was rumored earlier this week. A demo showing how you can send a movie from your tablet to your Xbox and pick up where you left off on your 360 was shown.
Xbox SmartGlass is an application for Windows 8, Windows Phone, and other portable devices that connects phones, PCs and tablets with your Xbox 360 console. It allows you to surf the web, play games and control your TV experience.
“Xbox is on a mission to make the entertainment that you love even more amazing,” said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “With Xbox SmartGlass, we are lighting up entertainment across your phone, tablet, PC and TV in a completely new way. If you love to play games, watch TV and movies, surf the Web, or listen to music, there has never been a better time to be on Xbox.”
Microsoft will also launch Internet Explorer for Xbox this fall in all countries where Xbox and Xbox Live are available with Kinect and SmartGlass functionality. users will be able to surf the Internet using voice while also navigating using mobile devices.
A demo of the app was shown during MS's E3 press event where Don Mattrick showed how you could watch a show such as Game of Thrones on HBO Go via your phone or tablet which and your progression through airing will be kept up with using the app - without actually interupting it.
The same can be accomplished with Madden, as was demoed as well, allowing you to pick a play using the tablet and the play the game using the play from the tablet on 360.
You can control the dashboard using Windows Phone with SmartGlass, and IE is also coming to the console with Kinect support. You can control pages you visit using your phone with SmartGlass.
The app is out this fall and works with TV, mobile, tablets, as well as W8 tablets, and PC.
