Microsoft to launch Tritton-branded Xbox 360 headsets

Microsoft has partnered with Tritton to produce a new range of official Xbox 360 headsets, sans wires, plus serious business.

IGN reports the three new headsets will support on-screen battery status display.

Two of the headsets are completely wire free - the Warhead 7.1 and Devastator - with another, cheaper wired version - the Detonator.

As you might have guessed, the Warhead supports 7.1 surround sound, while the other two are purely stereo.

The Detonator uses a single USB cable, but both the wireless models have a base charging station which connects to the console via USB and audio cable. Only the Warhead uses rechargeable batteries, though, with the Devastator relying an AAs.

The base stations are capable of powering four headsets simultaneously, so if you have spectators or are just kicking back with a movie - and for some reason need to do it in silence - well, uh, there you go. Solution. You can also plug your phone in and stream your own tunes directly.

Precise dates and prices are still to be confirmed, but Tritton told IGN to expect the new range before the end of the year, at under $300.
