Microsoft: Kinect voice coming to Australia by end of 2011, statistics revealed

Microsoft Australia's Xbox boss, David McLean, has said Kinect will be voice enabled in the country by the end of the year, and also dropped a few interesting statistics for Aussie use of the console.

Speaking at the Gametech conference in Sydney this morning (via Gamespot), McLean said one in five people access the Internet through a gaming console, and 15 percent watched television through the console, and 40 percent of activity on the Xbox 360 is not gaming related. He said that around 30 hours of video are watched on 360 each month, and 50 percent of Xbox 360 users i Australia are connected to Live.

McLean also said Australia's Foxtel service on Xbox 360 was downloaded over n 170,000 times, and the firm expects the figure to grow "significantly" since the "unmetered Foxtel via 360 on Telstra BigPond" was announced.

While it was also revealed during his speech that voice functionality with Kinect would be made available in the country by the end of 2011, an exact date was not announced.

Voice control will be added to Kinect elsewhere this fall when the new XBL interface launches.
