Microsoft invests $15 million in FourSquare to fund its Siri competitor 'Cortana' - report
Microsoft has reportedly invested $15 million in FourSquare to help power its Cortana app, which is poised to go head-to-head with Apple's Siri service.
It follows our report on Microsoft's rumoured Cortana app, which is said to be voiced by Halo's AI companion. The app is rumoured to be in development for Windows Phone devices and is said to replace Microsoft’s current ‘TellMe’ service at some point, early 2014.
Now, Bloomberg has cited an anonymous source who claims that FourSquare will develop the Cortana app following Microsoft's $15 million investment. Beyond rumours that it is a voice-activated assistant app, little more has been said.
The FourSquare investment was confirmed by the firm's Chief Executive Officer Dennis Crowley, but the intricacies of the deal have yet to be disclosed.
We'll update you as we hear more. For now, we have more rumours on the matter here.
