Microsoft boss Nadella "is fully on board with gaming"

Microsoft's CEO sees Xbox as a key part of the company's future.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella sees both Xbox and Microsoft's gaming component to be key to thew company's future, according to Xbox execs speaking in an interview on Business Insider.

"He is fully on board with gaming," said Mike Lavin, senior global product marketing manager for Xbox Live.

Rumours have persisted in recent years that Microsoft could consider selling off its Xbox division, but the days of wavering commitment appear to be behind us.

Xbox One's November update is to add backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games, as well as a re-designed home page and new community features. The update will add Windows 10 functionality, bringing Nadella's concept of allowing Microsoft users to access their content on any connected device to its gaming effort.

"It's not really hard to think about that [vision] with games," says Xbox Group Product Manager Peter Orullian.

Last week Microsoft reported that monthly active users on Xbox Live grew by 28 percent to 39 million during the last quarter.
