Metal Gear Survive review round-up, all the scores
Metal Gear Survive has held the morbid interest of gamers everywhere since it was announced back at Gamescom 2016.
The first game to use the Metal Gear name since Hideo Kojima’s high-profile departure from Konami was always going to get a rough ride, but over the weekend final scores have started to come in.
Critics haven’t been as hard on the game as one might expect from the ill will surrounding it, with review scores ranging from mediocre to good.
Metal Gear Survive was built using the FOX Engine which was developed by Kojima Productions after MGS 4 and subsequently used in Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer games, as well as MGS 5: The Phantom Pain.
Set in a parallel world where people are infected with a strange lifeform that turns them into monstrous “Wanderers”, Metal Gear Survive follows an infected Mother Base soldier as they scavenge the parallel landscape, rescuing survivors and looking for a cure for the infection.
The game drew criticism prior to its release for its implementation of always online single-player and microtransactions.
Metal Gear Survive was released on February 20, 2018, but the online servers only went live around release day, which is why most reviews went up over the weekend.
