Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes iDROID app shows you where other players died

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes has a second screen app that adds in a Dark Souls-like feature for identifying particularly dangerous regions.

Siliconera reports the iDROID app will become available on March 20 in Japan, when the game launches locally, so it expected at or around launch in western territories in the same week.

The app represents Snake's in-game handset, and while you can access all its functions on the main screen, doing so leaves you vulnerable as it blocks out the rest of your view. By using a second screen, you can keep one eye on the game field.

You can use the app to check the map, find targets, call helicopters, and access a Heat Map overlay showing where other players died.

When not playing the game, iDROID can be used as a stand-alone app to listen to music or explore the game's backstory. You can also use it to work on Snake's home base and view various records.

It's not clear if you'll be able to use iDROID with MGS5: The Phantom Pain, but as progress carries over it seems pretty likely.

Konami recently dropped the price tag on Ground Zeroes and announced bonus content for early orders.
