Konami has already revealed that Lords of Shadow 2 will end the story of Gabriel Belmont, but what's next for the Castlevania series? In a roundtable interview at San Diego Comic-Con, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 producer Dave Cox said that the latest title will be MercurySteam's last. According to Cox, the Spanish-studio has nothing left to say about the eternal war between the Belmonts and supernatural evil.
"We have to really plan differently and do things differently. And we've made mistakes on this one, as well, which we're going to hopefully improve for the next one," Cox said in the roundtable, as reported by GameSpot UK. "I think it's a learning process and I think game developers are learning every day how to do things better."
"I think if you've got something to say, you should just say it, and when you're done, just shut up. And we've got something to say. And once it's out there…I think it's time for somebody else; somebody younger, a younger producer to come in and take up the mantle and do what they think would be right for Castlevania and for us to move on to something else."
MercurySteam already has its sights on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, according to a GameSpot report in June. At SDCC, Cox gave a possible hint as to which series the developer may work on.
"It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Contra and I'd like to do something in that universe," Cox teased.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is coming from PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC this winter.
