Mega Man Legends spiritual successor Red Ash Kickstarter seeks $800K
Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune is after $800,000 for his latest crack at genres Capcom has apparently abandoned.
Red Ash is a Mega Man Legends spiritual successor, in the same way Mighty No. 9 followed on from Mega Man.
The key information is helpfully bolded on the project's newly-opened Kickstarter page:
"The Red Ash team is spearheaded by Art Director Kazushi Ito and Director Masahiro Yasuma, key members of the original team that pioneered open world game design with Mega Man Legends.
"This project has inherited some of the DNA from our Mighty No. 9 project--specifically, the shared character names Beck and Call."
If there's some argument to muster for how Red Ash isn't the Mega Man Legends of the Mighty No. 9 universe after that, I'm not sure anyone wants to hear it.
The $800,000 Comcept is asking for is merely to help fund a prologue chapter called The KalKanon Incident on PC, which Inafune sees as a "jumping-on point for the universe".
"We hope to use this small, but dense taste of the Red Ash universe as a foundation on which to build future content," Comcept wrote.
"Whether it's through additional funding, revenue from The KalKanon Incident sales, or teaming up with a publisher, this is a story we are determined to tell, and we want all of our backers to be on the ground floor for the creation of this new game universe."
One of the ways backers will be "on the ground floor" is by design feedback during development. This may help ease hearts wounded by the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3, which was being developed with input from fans.
