Medal of Honor tomahawk promotion cancelled

References to Project Honor, a scheme to sell replica tomahawks to raise money for war veterans, have been removed from EA websites after editorial condemnation of the program.

EA's Greg Goodrich told Eurogamer the promotion was (ha ha) axed after the publisher took note of the site's criticisms.

"The Voodoo Tomahawk has since been removed from our website because of the article," he said.

The Medal of Honor website links to a number of commercial partners offering weapons of various kinds, as part of its claims to authenticity, but the tomahawk was the only direct replica of an in-game item revealed so far. Several gaming websites questioned the taste of the promotion, notably Gameological.

It's not clear how EA will handle the scheme' abrupt cancellation.

"That was an effort to raise a lot of money for charity, and we were well on our way to raising a lot of money with that tomahawk, but I don't know what will happen with that now," Goodrich said.

"That whole effort, we've been working with those partners because we wanted to be authentic, and we wanted to give back to the communities. Every one of those partners, none of them paid a dime for product placement - all the money generated went to Project Honor."

Medal of Honor: Warfighter launches on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October.
