Mass Effect: Andromeda will ignore your ME3 save file

Speaking with Eurogamer, Bioware's studio boss Aaryon Flynn and creative lead Mac Walters confirmed that Mass Effect: Andromeda will not carry over any of the decisions that brought you to Mass Effect 3's controversial endings.

"We want this to be a new story and it would be very hard to say it's a new story but also that you need to understand how [the past trilogy] ended", Flynn said.

The interview provides some details on the thought process behind Andromeda - the game will be unaffected by anything that happens or could potentially happen in the original trilogy, apparently, although Flynn clarified that there will be familar elements for fans.

"We needed to find a way to make sure certain species you're familiar with come along with you on your journey to meet new ones. As in the tradition of Mass Effect, there will be certain people working together happily, and certain people working together less happily."

Mass Effect's protagonist's name, Ryder, was recently revealed, following the game's new E3 trailer.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is due to release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One early next year. A date hasn't been announced yet, but Amazon is suggesting March 31.
