Mass Effect: Andromeda videos explain what the Andromeda Initiative is, outline Pathfinder's objective
The Andromeda Initiative is on the lookout for prospective recruits who will be sent to explore the Andromeda Galaxy.
Mass Effect: Andromeda has an in-universe initiative that carries the same name. The Andromeda Initiative is a programme designed to send people of all races on a trip to explore the Andromeda Galaxy, in search of a new home.
The initiative's website went live alongside the reveal trailer, and with it, two new initiation videos were released, giving us first insight into the game's story.
The video above is used for recruitment, and explains the overall goal of the programme, and why you should join. The one below, however, is where the real meat of the details is.
Presented by founder Jian Garson, this video is what those accepted into the programme will be seeing. It explains that recruits will be put into cryostasis for 600 years, and awake once the ships reach Andromeda.
Multiple ships will be making this one-way trip. Two of which are named, one called Arc Hyperion, which is where most recruits will be. The other is the Nexus, commanded by Garson herself. The rest of the species will be transported by three other Arcs.
Each Arc will be assigned its own Pathfinder, which is where the main character comes in. Each Pathfinder will be a blend of elite soldier, scientist, and guide. The mission is to locate a new home from a selection of planets in the Hellios Cluster, pre-identified by long-range sensors (think Interstellar).
The rest of the details will be revealed soon, including the weapons and bionics issued to each Pathfinder, the vehicles, and other information about establishing outposts and the protocols to follow when encountering other sapient lifeforms.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is out in spring 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
