Mass Effect: Andromeda developer BioWare Montreal merges with EA Motive
The team at BioWare Montreal, the studio behind Mass Effect: Andromeda, has joined Motive Studios.
Motive is EA's newest studio, headed up by industry veteran Jade Raymond. It's currently co-developing Amy Hennig's Star Wars title alongside Visceral games, in addition to making the single-player campaign for Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
The confirmation comes after a report back in May suggested that EA is downsizing the Andromeda team following the game's poor reception. Andromeda was the studio's first and only game as a lead studio.
"With multiple major projects in development in Montreal, we are merging BioWare Montreal with Motive Studios," EA said in a statement to Tech Raptor.
"This is an ongoing process, but there are many exciting roles and opportunities for everyone on the team."
Last week, Mass Effect trilogy producer and longtime face of BioWare, Casey Hudson, return to lead the studio after former general manager Aaryn Flynn departed. Hudson will now be in charge of both remaining BioWare studios at Edmonton, and Austin.
BioWare Edmonton is currently working on Anthem, a projects that's been in the pipeline since the studio shipped Mass Effect 3. BioWare Austin, on the other hand, is still the main studio supporting Knights of the Old Republic, while also giving Edmonton a hand with Anthem.
Very little is known about Motive's new IP, outside of it being an action adventure in the same vein as Assassin's Creed.
