Marvel's Avengers PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will make levelling up harder
Leveling your characters and progression in Marvel's Avengers is about to get even grindier Crystal Dynamics alters the way the game works on next-gen consoles.
Once the native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Marvel's Avengers are out on March 18, things are going to get a bit more difficult for players looking to grind out levels and make their heroes more powerful.
Crystal Dynamics will be increasing the amount of XP you'll need to reach the highest level in the game – rank 50 – because players are currently leveling up too quickly. In a post over on the game's official site, the developer says new players feel overwhelmed with how many systems the game throws at them as they rapidly level.
The development team explains the levelling system as it is now as something of a straight line where every level requires the same amount of XP to complete. “In most RPGs, the amount of XP you need to level up increases as you gain levels in a curve, but our system is a straight line.
"This has led to pacing issues, such as skill points currently being rewarded too fast, which may be confusing and overwhelming to newer players. We want each decision to invest in a skill or Heroic to be more meaningful," Crystal Dynamics says.
From level 25, onwards, then, the grind will be more intense. Oddly, considering the company is changing things for seemingly legitimate reasons, Crystal Dynamics then goes on to advise players to level up their characters before this patch hits on March 18 if you want to max out your heroes. Bizarre.
The game will also make changes to the way customization items are earned, with Crystal Dynamics working towards “the goal of providing more player agency and clarity about how to obtain them by removing randomness from the process”.
Square Enix will release the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Marvel’s Avengers with the game’s new Hawkeye DLC on March 18, 2021.
