Mario Kart 8 hackers find ways to alter the game on Wii U

Mario Kart 8 has been hacked, according to footage posted on YouTube over the weekend.

The video was posted by MrBean35000vr and shows the hackers using a browser exploit to switch up track music, change track names and more.

However, the Mario Kart 8 community has responded negatively to the mods shown above, as it is not feared that they could be used to cheat online.

The hackers replied to concerns by saying of the video, "Very very basic stuff, more of a proof of concept rather than anything else.

"None of this is in any state to be released at present, and it's unlikely that we ever will in the interest of preventing cheaters.

"We're not going to be encouraging cheating with this and won't let our work be used for it. Our goal is to make game mods; custom tracks, etc. Relax and enjoy what we come up with."

The Wii U's recent 5.0.0 firmware update blocks the mods, although MrBean35000vr is running an out of date version to circumvent Nintendo's safeguards.
