The Japanese-created Italian plumber wears the US flag in Super Smash Bros. 3DS and Wii U, because golf.
The Japanese Super Smash Bros. Twitter account posted an image of Mario's alternate costume, which is inspired by his NES Open outfit rather than recent July 4 celebrations.
I have nothing more to say on this subject. Super Smash Bros. 3DS is due in October, with the Wii U version to follow in the holiday period.
