Malicious apps on Google Play quadrupled between 2011 and 2013

Here's a daily dose of math for you: the number of malicious apps found through Google Play has risen from 11,000 in 2011 to 42,000 in 2013, according to a PC World report citing online security services company RiskIQ. The amount of malware, spyware, or Torjans corresponds to the store's growth, which in 2011 had 250,000 and at the end of 2013 has over 1,000,000 - meaning 4% of apps contain are malicious. In 2011, Google pulled 60% of bad apps. During 2013, it removed less than 25%. While entertainment apps and games are included in the figures, the majority of issues stem from personalization apps.
