Lulzsec: self-proclaimed leader arrested in Australia, facing 10 years in jail

The self-proclaimed leader of hacker group Lulszec has reportedly been arrested in Australia, and now faces up to ten years in prison for a string of hacking charges,

The New York Times reports that a 24-year-old man has not been named, and is said to have given Sydney police enough reason to believe that he is the leader of the Lulszec group.

Police have confirmed that the arrest was made on Tuesday night, in relation to a Lulszec attack on an undisclosed Australian government site, and was brought in on two separate charges.

According to the site the man was an, "I.T. specialist at a Sydney-based company", and used his position to access sensitive information and breach sites.

Glen McEwen, manager of cybercrime operations for the Australian Federal Police said of the arrest, “The A.F.P. has zero tolerance for this kind of behavior. There were no denials of his claims of being the leader. The A.F.P. believes this man’s skill sets and access to this kind of information presented a considerable risk to Australian society."

It comes as Lulzsec hacker Ryan Ackroyd was arrested in the UK and pleaded guilty to attacks on Sony and Nintendo sites. The trial has yet to take place, but you can read up on the arrest here.
