Little THQ fallout for WWE 2K14 developers
Unlike THQ stablemates South Park: The Stick of Truth and Metro: Last Light, the WWE game license didn't go to auction; Take-Two picked it up straight from WWE itself during the bankruptcy proceedings. And the folks at independent Japanese developer Yuke's say that whole ordeal didn't affect what they were working on -- what is now known as WWE 2K14 -- all that much.
In fact, according to quotes from creative director Cory Ledesma madeto Polygon, they didn't even stop working on the game during all that THQ drama.
"We knew that the game was going to get done; it was just a matter of [waiting for] the situation to unfold and to finalize itself," Ledesma said, "and we knew that it wasn't going to take a very long time, and it was a very quick transition, and so we wanted to make sure that production didn't stop because it can be very detrimental, obviously — even just missing a week, how much that impacts the schedule."
Furthermore, Ledesma talked a little trash about THQ in the interview. "You've always got to fully support a product in order for it to reach its potential, and I think that just maybe wasn't happening [at THQ] as much as it should be."
He then said he thinks working with 2K will be a bit better. WWE 2K14, a current-gen title, will launch on PS3 and 360 October 29 in the US and November 2 in Europe.
