Little Monster Productions accused of Kickstarter scam

A Kickstarter campaign from Little Monster Productions has been accused of being a scam of sorts, and trying to pass off concept art and images stolen from other websites as assets as its own.

According to Develop, the project, titled Mythic: The Story of Gods and Men, was to contain the gameplay equivalent of World of Warcraft meshed with the graphical prowess of Skyrim.

On its Kickstarter page, the team was noted as being made up of “12 industry veterans," two of which which were former creative directors, a former CTO, senior programmers and an ex-VP of production - most formerly of Activision and Blizzard.

While the firm claimed most of its funding had already been raised by angel investors, VCs and personal savings, it still needed $80,000 to full fund the project, so went to Kickstarter for help.

The firm received $5,000 in pledges before Kickstarter users noticed the familiar artwork. The team quickly took the funding page down, with issuing the following statement, citing false ownership claims against its artwork:

“A few members of our team worked at Burton Design Group last year before others found out the owner was being shady with funds. They left and joined our team shortly after.
“As for the concept art, it seems we have been subjected to false claims of ownership right to our concepts. The game itself is well in progress and is NOT a scam of any kind. Thank you for understanding. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.”

If you head on over to the Kickstarter page and look through the comments section, you can find links users posted regarding the original source of the artwork which claimed to be from t he project.
