Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 battle system, new costume and arena detailed
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 details on the battle system and the reveal of a new location and costume have been posted by Square Enix.
The screenshots below show off Yusnaan, "the city of revelry," and focus on The Slaughterhouse, an arena home to nightly battles.
There's also a new costume available which allows you to dress Lightning as A Realm Reborn's Miqo’te character. You can also use the Lominsan Cutlass and Escutcheon which will give you more rapid attacks.
Also of note, in some battles, you can destroy sections of a foe and once you disable a specific area the enemy will be weakened. You will also earn different items as rewards once the battle is won.
You can also perform a new counter attack system where if you time your attack perfectly with your enemy's, you can stagger them; however, it’ll use up a large portion of the ATB gauge, and it’s only effective against physical attacks.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 is out in the west during February 2014 on PS3 and Xbox 360.
