Let's Read Unity-chan's Manga Origin Story Together

Want to know the origin story of Unity Japan's anime mascot? We read the comic.

Perhaps you've heard of Unity-chan? Unity Japan's idol mascot was introduced a couple years ago; and as I discovered at this year's BitSummit, her story has been immortalized in a manga.

I discovered this as I was passing by the Unity booth and happened to notice piles of these comics on offer for attendees. Unity-chan is fairly well-known around the Internet, but I sort of feel like it's worth going through her origin story together since she's featured so prominently in Unity Japan's marketing materials. So allow me to share this thing with you!

We begin by meeting the development team. This is the technical artist, for example. This shot makes him look like he's wearing Geordi's visor.

The team wants to create a character, and they decide on an idol similar to Sega's Hatsune Miku (she even makes a brief appearance as they're brainstorming). Let the prototyping begin!
Still prototyping.
Unity-chan starts haunting the team's dreams. She's apparently impatient to get to the stage. Wonder what this stage entails?
