Get a partial scholarship for playing League of Legends

Are you a hardcore League of Legends player who would like to go to college? Well, Robert Morris University (RMU) wants to give you partial scholarship.

Located in Aurora, IL which is part of the Chicago metro area, RMU has eSports to its varsity athletic program and is currently recruiting students based on their LoL skills.

The university will become part of the Collegiate Star League which contains students competing in Starcraft 2, Dota 2, Hearthstone: Heroes of WarCraft and LoL. Currently there are 103 institutions competing.

RMU will be the first university to support eSports at the varsity level, and plans to recruit three teams of nine players each which will include a main starter team and two support squads.

"After we looked into League of Legends, frankly I was shocked at the scale and the size, and how passionate the community is," RMU's associate athletic director Kurt Melcher told IGN. "We give scholarships for a variety of different interests, along with traditional sports like football, basketball, soccer. So we thought, 'Why wouldn't we give scholarships for this?'

"I hope we're not the last school to do what we're doing. The CSL is so well organized already, but I would love to see it go a step farther. If we're the first of many, that would be spectacular."

Scholarships will be based on previous League of Legends experience and students can take up to 50% off tuition and housing ($19,000).

Students which are part of the program will enter competitive play in September. During the next few months, the program will be adapting as it transitions into its first year of collegiate eSports.
